Castle Antiques is part of Castle Trading Inc, a company owned by Elke and Peter Schleifenbaum.

Residing near Haliburton, the Schleifenbaums, antique collectors for many years, have retained their firm connections to the Old World, especially Ireland and Germany, where most of our pieces originate from.

The store’s focus is on the unusual, not commonly found, one-of-a kind antique. The periods we specialize in is Georgian and Regency for our Irish/British furniture and Biedermeier for the central European pieces. To add colour and fancy to the dark and clear-lined furniture of these eras, we carry accessories – glassware, ceramics, lamps, sculptures etc.  from the Art Deco and Art Nouveau genre, right up to fancy “retro” pieces.

Commonly the import of European antiques is reserved to large, international dealers, based out of London, New-York or Los Angeles. Castle Antiques does not fit that pattern in that we are a small, one store, rural business relying on longstanding relationships to buy our pieces, one at a time. At the same time we view every client as a customer with unique needs and preferences, which we will try to meet through our inventory and networks. In our business we want to pass on to our patrons our love for antiques, our longtime experience, as well the strength of our international associations. Our pieces, all genuine antiques, shall represent good value and years of appreciation and enjoyment. Our philosophy is that buying antiques is as much a long term investment, as it is an expression of lifestyle, expressing tradition, style and sustainability.

Check out this blog article from Peter and find out why buying antiques is not only fun, but also very sustainable and a good investment.
